Everyone knows the harsh effects that the summer sun and chlorine can have on your skin, but the winter can be just as cruel. While people are more prone to care for their skin during the shorts and tank top season, do not neglect to tend to your skin during sweater weather because you think it is guarded by long sleeves and layers. IPSY offers several tips on how you can care for your skin this winter season.

Change to a Calming Cleanser

It is essential to wash your face daily to remove oil, dirt, and makeup. The skin on your face, however, is some of the most delicate skin on your body, so you need to be careful not to use a cleanser that is too rough on your face. Aim to use soap-free cleansers or cleansing balms in the winter.

Incorporate a Toner in Your Skin Routine

When looking for a toner to use in the winter months, you need a toner that hydrates your skin rather than one that has strong clarifying ingredients. With just a few drops, your skin will be well hydrated without having access weight.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

It may seem obvious enough, but your skin needs to be thoroughly moisturized. This goes for your face, hands, feet, arms, and legs. In the winter time, you need to aim for a moisturizer that is slightly richer than what you may use during the summer. For double protection, you should also apply a skin barrier-repair cream like Vaseline after you moisturize with an intense hydrating moisturizer cream, so that it helps lock in that moisture.

The Key is to Exfoliate

While all the steps mentioned above are important, they do not nearly do all they can if you are applying them to flaky dead skin cells. Before you begin your skin regimen with all the cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and more, you need to exfoliate to remove that layer of dead skin cells. Exfoliation does not have to happen everyday. Schedule it into your skin care routine a couple of times a week.
